Article Focus:
Brian Artka takes a look at The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby and published by New Riders. ~ Brian concludes that this book is knowledgeable and easy to read information that will help out any inspiring digital photographer/Photoshop user.

There are plenty of Photoshop books on the market that deal with digital photography, but many of them do not deliver. Scott Kelby’s new book, The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, not only delivers, it leaves you wanting more.

Scott is the editor of Photoshop User magazine and author of Photoshop 7 Down & Dirty Tricks and Photoshop 7 Killer Tips. His authority on teaching Photoshop techniques and tricks is fairly well known in the industry.

If you have read any of Scott’s previous books, you will get a sense of how he treats his readers with a humorous but to the point and serious approach. The book is loaded with full color examples and techniques in its three hundred some odd pages. Each chapter is packed with hints and tips on how to deal with the images after you get them from your camera into the computer. The short chapter on Adobe Photoshop’s Camera RAW plug-in was very interesting and usable information. It is a free plug-in from adobe that lets you open the RAW images from your camera and adjust many settings of the picture before editing it in Photoshop. For example, one can easily change the white balance setting on the RAW image before any Photoshop editing or filtering is done.

Want to change the DPI of your image so you get a better print? Scott explains this simple technique easily. How about making your image poster size without much if any quality loss? I did not think this was possible, but he also explains this technique. Color corrections, cropping, and organizing your photos is also explained in the book. There is so much useful information in this book it is hard to explain in a small review.

COW RATING: The back cover of this book explains that this book is mainly for professionals and pro-sumer digital photographers. I have to disagree with this comment and add that this book is for ANYONE who owns a digital camera and Adobe Photoshop. Mr. Kelby explains the features and techniques in this book so well that anyone who has the smallest knowledge of digital cameras and Photoshop will get a plethora of knowledge to use on any endeavor they choose.

I have to give The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers a 5 cow rating for its fantastic, knowledgeable and easy to read information that will help out any inspiring digital photographer/Photoshop user.
