Article Focus:
In Episode 4 of the Blender Survival Guide we expand on the subject started last week, and work on making the 3D text look better by learning how to use additional fonts, how to create new materials and how to take advantage of optimized Ambient Occlusion.
These are all fairly dense topics but, as usual, Paolo gives you the condensed version of them so that you can start appreciating the features without being "clobbered" by the details.

thank god i found this sight. couldn't get passed the cube, and it took me awhile to see that it was a cube. please, please keep up the good work
| | | | Glad that you found us. Tes, the cube seeing from top down has confused scores of people. If this is a 3d program why doesn't it shoe things in 3d? :)

Well that was just plain COOL. I found that staying in Blender AFTER your tutorial was done, and just moving the lights around, trying little things to see how it changes the lighting really helped too. Great Tutorial, onto Number 5 ;)
| | | | Hey Mark, glad you're having fun with these.

Hi Paolo,
I am following your tutorials and they are fabulous.
Thank you for having them here for us all to view and enjoy.
I have just one problem.
I get a black screen when I render.
If I render in animation then it renders in colour.
I have plenty of light happening, lamps and spots.
I have reinstalled Blender but having no luck.
Any ideas?
Thank you so much | | | | |
| | | | Check your post an image of your Scene settings? Check if you have the "Do Sequence" or "Do Composite" buttons pressed.

Thank you for the tutorials, they're really helpful in my learning.
| | | | Hi Paolo,
Is there any way change the color of the shadows from black to a color
| | | | First of all I want to tank you for your work. this is something that was needed to get blender to the masses.
on tut # 4 the video and audio are not synchronized tho.
This can confuse some beginners like my self. please don't take this comment like I'm been selfish.cus that is not the case at all.its just that the video and sound are really off other than that great work.
thank you again and keep them coming.
| | | | My mistake, the keystroke for Render is actually F12 | | | | |
| | | | Hello Paolo,
Pressing my F10 key does not cause a Render, could this possibly be caused by some other program or preference setting I have on my computer.
Good Tutorial, I'm getting the hang of Blender, cant wait to start creating some art. ---I'm also getting corporal tunnel syndrome. :-(
| | | | @all: you are all very welcome. I'm thrilled that you are finding these tutorial useful. Your feedback made my day. More to come!
| | | | |
| | | | Another excellent tutorial, Paolo! I like the way you explain things practically and "without all of the geeky stuff" as you put it.
Can't wait to see what's next!
Thanks!
