Logitech's "elite" keyboard has some very cool features that are handy, especially for those users who have to navigate often through their Intranet and Internet, and it works for both the PC and the Mac! In this article, John David Hutton briefly runs through his favorite features.

So… who cares about a keyboard? What makes this one so special.
Well let's take a look:
As you can kind of tell from the picture, this keyboard sports keys at the very top which can be programmed to do a number of things. I've reprogrammed these “hotkeys” to open my favorite apps, among them being Illustrator, photoshop, after effects, sound forge, Internet Explorer, and my non-linear editing software Velocity. In the middle resides the media dialer, capable of easily controlling your system's volume as well as a play, pause, rewind and fast-forward buttons. To the left of the dialer is a button that brings up a menu containing all of your media apps, such as windows media player, DVD player (if any), quicktime, real one, and a host of other media apps. On the right of the dialer is the mute button. On the left of the keyboard is a scroll wheel, similar to what you might find on a standard mouse, and two buttons. Significantly, an important key resides on the very top left called the F-Lock key. This clues us in to my favorite set of features for this keyboard.
When you right-click on the itouch icon you get a menu that looks something like this:
From here you can reprogram the hotkeys mentioned above, or you can reprogram your function keys. While that sounds dangerous, this is where the f-lock key comes into play. While the f-lock key is activated, your function keys operate as normal (F1 is still help inside Photoshop for example).
So what's so special about reprogramming the function keys?
My favorite use for these function keys is navigating networked folders. We have probably fifty networked folders we navigate to on a regular and semi-regular basis. What a pain it is to navigate there manually each time you need to go somewhere. With the itouch software, you can tell each function key to open up a menu and list choices you've programmed. For example, when I press my F11 key I'm taken into my own menu listing some commonly navigated networked folders:
Another useful feature for this is to put in web addresses you visit often. With a press of a button, you're presented with a list of choices to visit.
Naturally these can be a combination of intranet and internet addresses. This makes it much handier to go exactly to the page you want at the press of one button and the click of a mouse. Very handy.

I give this 5 cows for ease-of-use, features and price. I highly recommend this keyboard for anyone forced to navigate through sub-folders and network shares as well as anyone who just needs a good keyboard.
