Article Focus: In this video tutorial, Creative COW contributing editor Carl Larsen shows you how to archive a project with shared assets using the consolidate footage and collect Files commands.
You may find changing your naming system from 08.17.09 to 2009_08_17 a helpful change.
Since periods can confuse your operating system in thinking .09 is an extension rather than a file name, I'd recommend using an underscore instead. Additionally, if you list the year first, all of the files will sort more logically when come back to your archive a year or two later.

Thanks and a file naming question.

Thank you very much, this was very helpful. I have one question though.
My file naming system includes adding the date at the end of a file name (08.17.09 for example). After I click collect, a window opens where I can change the folder name and select the destination. Below the name box there is a "save as type" box where it automatically adds the '.09' so each collected folder has the extra period and number at the end.
I wonder how can I cancel that ( I can't delete that number). I know this is maybe to much to worry about but it can definitely help with the workflow.
