A Creative COW "Real World" Product Overview

ADDENDUM ONE:

Adding additional volumes to the SonicFire Pro system...

Depending upon the version that many people buy, the system usually ships with either two or four volumes from the SmartSound Library to begin with. To add additional sound libraries to your system, you simply go to the "Edit" pulldown menu and select the Librarian (right) and foloow the steps below.

Please Note: There are two different ways you can install the SmartSound volumes onto your machine:

  1. The first install method, allows you to install just the Librarian "pointer" files that act much like "aliases" or "short cuts" (depending upon whether you use a Mac or Windows). The basic Librarian install will then point to the actual audio files still resident on the CD which must be inserted with each use when using this method of install.
  2. The second method, explained below, allows you to install the actual files so that you never have to install the discs when working with SonicFire Pro. With today's low drive prices, many users elect for this method. I have used both methods and having the entire clip online is faster but using the files from CDs is not more than a minor inconvenience.

Each method is very fluid and works well. I never mind working with SonicFire Pro from the discs when I have to but the system really flies when having it all on your system. I know users who take laptops to their clients to lay out audio/video roughs during visits.

THE LIBRARIAN INTERFACE: Part One

Once you enter the Librarian, you will be presented with a screen that includes the options seen here. In this screen, you can add a Library (such as I have selected here). Or, you can remove a library, view a file's properties or copy a volume or a file to your harddrive. You can also delete any files from the system that you may have already downloaded to your harddrive from the CD volumes.

You can choose the location of your files using the scrolling menu below the install buttons.

If you run a system that combines some files that are CD-resident with others that are locally resident on your harddrive, you can also select the "Hide SmartSound selections requiring CD insertion" for when you are on the road, etc.

THE LIBRARIAN INTERFACE: Part Two

Once you select "Add" in the dialog box above, you will be presented with this screen which allows you to choose either the 22k or 44k audio file version. (Note: For some users who have opted for the base version of SmartSound for Multimedia, the 22k files are you sole option.)

THE LIBRARIAN INTERFACE: Part Three

After entering your access code number which activates the files under your license number, your final option will be to either copy the files to your harddrive or not copy them. Select the "Don't Copy" option if you prefer to run the system from the CDs; otherwise, just hit "Copy Now" and select the location where you want the audio files to reside on your system.

You are finished. SonicFire Pro is now activated with your new volumes!
