Rotation, rotation, rotation...
by Mike Park
Paul, you are correct. I had to go back and re-render the sequence for Aharon to use. I had turned off the camera to make an adjustment and hit render, realizing my mistake far too late, after the tutorial was up. These things happen to the best of us.

As for your other comment regarding the settings. You are correct. I only have so much time. If I were to take the time to do ram previews on every step and also show what every change in each parameter did, the tutorial would last a solid week. I try to explain the overall concept and as many features as I can in the limited time I have. That being said, nothing stops people from downloading the project file and playing with the parameters to see what they do or reading the documentation. That is how I learned - try it yourself and you will learn it much better. It is a balancing act between giving enough info and getting bogged down explaining everything.

That being said, thank you for your comments and for watching the tutorial. So many people watch these and don't leave any feedback. I really value your thoughts and like to see what people like and also what people would like to see done better.

All my best,

Mike Park
Great tutorial...but where's the rotation?
by Paul Roper
Hmmm...the final movie did not include any rotation from the null you added at the end. Didn't it work properly? Or did I just miss it?

A minor criticism...it would be nice to see more RAM previews of your work as you go, to see the differences made by some of the settings you change, rather than just filling in all the parameters with numbers you've previously figured out. I know it would make the tutorial longer, but it would give us a better idea of how the parameters work. It's always hard to figure out just how much to tweak a value on a new plug-in - eg. to slow down a particle, should the air resistance be somewhere around 0.1 or 500?

But anyway, thanks for a great tutorial - it's always good to see software used in a way that is far from obvious - yes, we've all seen very nice sparkly or dusty effects from Particular, but making a Christmas tree from it? Fantastic!
Thanks...

I live in Nevada, South of Vegas. It is actually 50... but my friends in Wisconsin where we just moved from are suffering feet of snow... just rubbing it in.

Heading to Disneyland today... Yippee... a view of real magic. (or at least forced perspective)...

AWESOME
by Mike Park
Rob,

That was GREAT! I loved what you did with my original concept and made it your own. Reminded me a little of Disney! By the way, where do you live that it is 70 degrees right now?

Merry Christmas,

Mike
Mike, you so encouraged me....
by Rob Dahl
Mike,

To show that that someone actually does stuff with tutorials... Here is what I did in just a few hours of playing with your tree... Thanks again!!!

Oh Christmas Tree!!!
by Brian Waters
That was absolutely amazing! You made something that looks complicated look easy. Now that I am inspired, I will be looking into your DVD. Great stuff Rob!!!
Thanks for the encouragement
by Mike Park
Rob, thanks so much for the kind words. It is because of people like you that I do these tutorials. I know these things because people before me were nice enough to make tutorials and teach me...that and hundreds of hours of using and playing with Particular! I have several ideas for new tutorials in the future...did you catch the one before this, Deathly Apparition?...but am taking a little time off for the holidays. If you just cant wait for more, you can always check out my new Master Series dvd here at the Cow titled, Practical Particles. I have 12 tutorials on using Particular in real world situations, and some fun ones as well. Just a little shameless self-promotion. You can find it in the training section. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Best,

Mike
WOW.... It is snowing...
by Rob Dahl
AWESOME... (ok, I yelling...) This tutorial is the bee's knees, the winter's solstice, one of the best tutorials I have seen since visiting this site.
How do you know all these things?

Keep up the great work...

Looking forward to the next surprise...
