Article Focus:
Many people are interested in creating and incorporating 3d generated footage into live action. In this 2 part tutorial, Michael Park will demonstrate how to create a shotgun blast at the camera using 3d rendered particles and distortion trails along with some 2d footage to create a convincing effect. In part 1 of this tutorial, we will create the 3d shotgun pellet geometry and material, as well as the distortion trails to be later used in the after effects composition.

rotating pellets
by Mike Park
@ John,

You are correct, they would be rotating. If you want rotation, just enable it under the rotation section in the particle flow rollout for the pellets.

While I LOVE after effects, there are some things you cant do in 2d or in AFX's limited 3d capabilities. I long for the day when a 3d program is integrated into afx or vice-versa, but until then, you have to jump back and forth.

Best,

Mike

Loved the link using 3ds Max then moving to AF. I first started with AF 4.5 on to today's CS4, and JUST now I'm getting into more 3D work with Max. So anything that expands my brain using both these programs would be great.
I was thinking about the gun-pellets,..... wouldn't they be rotating as they left the barel?
