Hi Camille

Sorry for the delay in replying I'm away running a course at the moment.

The best plug-in for lip sync in AE is this one from the genius that is Mathias Möhl http://www.mamoworld.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=314&I... It is about $39 and will save you a great deal of time.

Another option for animation with lip-sync but not in AE is this one http://www.reallusion.com/crazytalk/Animator/ I actually have this product and it is very good but takes some getting use to ... but if character animation is your thing, it may be easier to do the actual animation in Crazy Talk animator and then output an image sequence into AE and complete the rest of the piece - ie background, FX etc in AE.

If you just want to have lip sync and don't want to worry about the animation outside of AE then you could get there version which is just Crazy Talk 7 which is just a head/lip sync animation solution and once again output an image sequence and parent the head to your animation in AE ...

Options options options ... but if I were starting again I'd go for the plug-in - that guy is a genius!

All the best
Andrew

... because it's all about stories ...

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for posting this video. its a great help!

I have another question to do with AE but couldn't find a different way of asking you it so i'm posting it here. (hope you don't mind).
I started looking into character animation in AE and found that doing lip syncing looks like a lot of manual work.
In Toonboom i was able to do it much easier.
I also saw a plugin that was supposed to automate lip syncing in AE however its rather dismaying to see their tutorial where they take 30 minutes to lip sync a 10 second piece.
Do you know of any good plugin that can do this or of a way to sync the lips without having to do one million keyframes?

THank you a lot!
Camille

This is done through a change to your keyframes called 'easing,' which causes the keyframes to change their default behaviour to give much more realistic and real world animation. As well as showing how to add easing to your animation, Andrew also introduces the graph editor to show how to change the values of eased keyframes.
