Very clear introduction and makes a good logical foundation for organizing the materials.

Question: since your footage is all silent, why didn't you set the preference to delete silent audio tracks on import? Do you have some plan to use the silent tracks in some way, later? One of the peeves I have in FCP6/7 is accidentally setting about six empty audio tracks when digitizing clips, then having to deal with deleting them in the timeline. It is nice that X can see blank tracks and just kill them off, so why did you choose not to select that preference, any particular reason?

Very useful, Kevin. I skipped to 12:15 and got right to the part about organizing events and importing and it helped me understand FCX better. I'll catch the rest later. Nice, quick pace!

Thanks for an informative intro. I came to The Cow to see what I could learn and pick up some tips on getting up to speed with FCP X. All I've seen in the forum is repetitive complaining about the same things over and over. I agree with many of those folks that they are disappointed with what Apple left out HOWEVER, I would like to start making something productive of my time and learn. Until I saw this, I was about to abandon Creative Cow forums for a while until things cooled down. The FCP-X forum has been nothing but venting and not helpful. I hope that changes.

Nice start Kevin. Though I would have preferred you didn't use the car analogy in your title....I can hear the "the wheels came off" jokes now. :]

Best,
Geoff

FCPX On Air. Coming Soon

Former skeptic John Davidson was right there with everyone else when FCPX was released who deemed it a complete disappointment for broadcast pros. Many updates and much experimentation later, he's now a believer: he has FCPX not only running on shared storage for broadcast work, but for John, it does so even better than FCP 7 ever did. Here he introduces a 5-part series, taking you step-by-step from project set-up to delivery, ready to help other broadcast pros get moving with FCPX.
