Re: Draw On Text
by Larry Bainbridge
Do you have any tips for Motion 5? I used your tutorial and everything worked up until the end when I created the mask. Once I created the mask the animation (drawing of the pen tool) appears instantly no longer"drawing".

I do the following with your tutorial:
object>add image mask

drag mask GROUP to mask source (then the mask group becomes unchecked, just like yours)

now when i play the text just appears instantly. If i place the check back in the mask group i can see it being drawn but the Text Group (now with the image mask in it) can't be seen... please help?

Hi Larry. I tested it out and it looks like a bug. The tutorial should work the same in Motion 5 as it does in Motion 4, but the image mask is not respecting the animation of the shape. Even when I created a clone of the shapes group and used that as the source, the animation still wasn't respected. Be sure to send feedback into Apple with the Feedback button on your system (as I did), and hopefully this will be fixed.

The only workaround I can see offhand is to export the shape animation as a ProRes 4444 file and reimport into the project.

Did you follow the tutorial step by step? Is your group 2D or 3D. Can you explain what exactly you tried?

Hey, this is a helpful video! Thanks for posting it. I have one issue: I can't drag the entire mask group into the Mask Source box... for some reason Motion wont let me have that option. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bobby
