IBC 2012: NVIDIA
Mac enthusiasts were happy to learn that NVIDIA just introduced the Quadro K5000 for Mac Pro systems, based on NVIDIA Kepler architecture and featuring Cinema 4K display support. NVIDIA also unveiled its second-generation Maximus workstation, featuring the Kepler architecture. This means that users can now send compute work to the NVIDIA Tesla accelerator, reserving the Quadro K5000 GPU for content creation. Last, the company debuted a new line of Kepler-powered Quadro graphics solutions for mobile workstations.

Blackmagic Design
IBC 2012: Blackmagic Design Releases
Blackmagic Design used IBC to debut seven products, including a second version of its camera, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera MFT. The UltraStudio 4K, UltraStudio Mini Monitor and Mini Recorder, and DeckLink 4K Extreme, as well as Mini Converter 4K and Videohub Master Control emphasized the company's focus on 4K and Thunderbolt-enabled products. The company also added support for the ExFAT file system, for Windows users.

IBC 2012: AVID's Worldwide Collaboration & Delivery
At IBC 2012, the Avid stand sports a globe, an icon of what the company is showing: more emphasis on worldwide collaboration and delivery to multiple screens. In addition to enhancements to the entire Media Composer 6.5 family, Avid unveiled Interplay Production 2.7, with support for Interplay Sphere, ISIS 2000, Avid DNxHD 85/100 and Media Composer 6.5/NewsCutter 10.5. Also new were advances to its asset-based workflow solutions. Interplay MAM (Media Asset Management) Active Archive and a new ProTools/HD Native Thunderbolt interface.

IBC 2012: Adobe Provides Broadcast & Media Solutions
Adobe came to IBC 2012 focused on the broadcast industry. The big reveal was its new Adobe Anywhere, a collaborative workflow platform that allows real-time collaboration for remote users of Premiere Pro, After Effects and Prelude. Adobe expanded its partnerships with broadcast solution companies, to over 200. At the show, Adobe also unveiled a new promotional offer for individuals and corporations interested in switching from Apple Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer to Adobe Production Premium or Adobe Creative Cloud.

IBC 2012: Autodesk
Autodesk is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Flame by launching Flame 2013, a totally re-architected and re-designed version of the groundbreaking platform. What's new? A new Creative Work Space, full timeline integration and a GPU/CPU model for improved performance. Autodesk is also showing its latest iteration of Smoke for Mac, which has been part of a massive public trial.

FilmLight at IBC 2012
For FilmLight, IBC is traditionally the show where they debut products shown as new technologies at NAB. FilmLight is living up to the tradition by coming to Amsterdam with a long list of new products: FLIP real-time image processor, Baselight TRANSFER real-time 4K dailies processing system; Baselight Editions; Baselight 4.3, the latest version with new features; BLG (Baselight Grade, an open EXR file format); and FLUX, an expandable 80TB streaming media server. The aim, says co-founder/director Wolfgang Lempp, is to improve productivity to keep up with ever-changing workflows.

Codex at IBC 2012
Codex is coming to IBC 2012 with new technology. Although its Onboard S will be shown for the first time at a European tradeshow, the big news is that the company is unveiling its capacity to support Canon Cinema RAW at up to 120 fps at 4K. At an incredibly lightweight and small size, the Onboard S is already being adopted by filmmakers who can benefit from its powerful features and form factor.

SMPTE standard put forward for closed captioning of online video
The FCC's Video Programming Accessibility Advisory Committee recommends SMPTE Timed Text. VPAAC met over a six month period, drafted a set of requirements for any standard and studied existing industry standards and technologies before coming to the conclusion that the SMPTE Timed Text standard--also known as SMPTE 2052--was the technical solution that best met the requirement.
