Saving the Shot! In the first part of this video tutorial series, Andrew Devis will show you how to access and use top quality color correction tools within Adobe After Effects by using the free Synthetic Aperture plug-in 'Color Finesse' which ships with After Effects CS3, CS4 and CS5. Andrew will start by dealing with a color cast problem with the hue offset wheels and then move on to use some automated tools to achieve an even better result. Once we have corrected the shot, we will then add a vignette to concentrate the viewers attention on the action and not on the background! The follow-on tutorial will look at the important tool of secondary color correction.

Thanks Andrew. Finally a color correction tutorial I can understand. I particularly loved the tips on looking away and editing as a mushroom. I have the unfortunate opportunity in editing by a large window, Sun in morning means a dark editing station and sun in afternoon means I cannot see.

Hi Lu
Thanks for letting me know, I have been corrected on this a few times now! I obviously need to be a little more careful in future.

Nice tutorial -- just a correction:

the Hue Offset wheels DO exist in the full interface of the plugin, they are just not obviously located.

They are under the HSL > Hue Offsets section

Hi Andri

Thank you for your kind words. You can spend a lot of time in a room on your own preparing these tutorials so it is really nice to get some positive feedback. :o)

There are some premiere pro color correction tutorials being put up at the moment, but the second part for the after effects tutorial is uploaded and should go live sometime soon.

Thanks again

Wow, man. What a fantastic tutorial. You really are a great teacher. The information, the pace of your voice, the demeanor. Everything was spot on. I've been watching a lot of tutorials lately and you're the best instructor by far.

Can't wait too see the next part. Thanks!

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate the heads-up. I never claimed to know everything and find myself always learning more and more all the time. I can't change the tutorial now, but I hope your post will make the wheels issue clear.

Thanks again

Great tutorial, Andrew. There is not nearly enough information about how to use Color Finesse out there, and I don't think most people even realize they have it.

One thing, though: I believe that in the Full Interface, if you click on "Hue Offsets" under the HSL menu (HSL in bottom left column, Hue Offsets in column to its right) you will indeed get the color wheels in the Full Interface.

Saving the Shot! In this second color correction tutorial Andrew Devis will show you how to apply the very powerful tool of secondary color correction using the free Synthetic Aperture plug-in 'Color Finesse' that ships with Adobe After Effects CS3, CS4 and CS5. Once applied Andrew will show you how to use layers within After Effects to ensure that the correction only happens in the area of main concern so that other areas with a similar color can be left untouched.

What Are Adobe Motion Graphics Templates?

What Are Adobe Motion Graphics Templates?

A Motion Graphics Template, referred to as a MOGRT, is an animated sequence that is self-contained and can be used in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere Rush and Adobe After Effects, combining graphics, text, audio and video files, as well as vector or still images (including logos), to create a still or animation that can then be customized by the MOGRT user. The result is a dynamic creative tool that provides design freedom and is consistent to its users across apps and devices. Reuse, share, and even sell them!
