thanks for the great tutorial.

i have a quick question. towards the end i saw your 3d version with particular. how do you assign z position in particular? particular has z position in separate parameter and when i use toWorld expression got an error message saying vector length doesn't match. here is my set up.

in particular...

Position XY
c=thisComp.layer("moon");
c.toWorld(c.transform.anchorPoint); //this works fine!

Position Z
c=thisComp.layer("moon");
c.toWorld(c.transform.anchorPoint[2]); //this line gives me an error. i was trying to grab only 'z'value from 'moon' anchor point.

any advice?

I'm glad to help. It's always nice to hear people are actually working through the concepts in a tutorial themselves, versus simply watching along and forgetting how to apply the concept.

Thanks!

Shihab

Are you working with a non-square pixel aspect ratio composition?

Dear Carl Larsen

I re-checked the pixel aspect ratio. It was 0.9; I changed the aspect ratio to square and all its working fine. once again, Thank you.
Best regards

Thank you for this good tutorial. I did as it was. But there is a problem- the null object (eg. Orbit) stretches while it rotates. the linked circles also get oval shape during the animation. the beginning and ending shape is circle; but the shape will change to stretched oval when it rotates.I tried in different machines but the problem remaining.
Please advice me..

Trace is backwords

Hello!

I'm just doing this tutorial and im at the end, but unfortunately, write-on trace writes backwords...:(

Wondering if you had any suggestions...i triple checked the codes and i know i have them correct...

the path of the moon sprouts out of the moon then the moon follows the path instead of creating a path...hope that makes sense!

any help would be greatly appreciated! ill give you a 5th cow when i can get this guy working!

One of the best tutorials in some time! Not for it's visual impact but for clearly explaining the layer and world space principles and showing some usefull expression code.

mocha AE Planar Tracker for Absolute Beginners

mocha AE Planar Tracker for Absolute Beginners

Want to learn how to create advanced visual effects? Learn how to use mocha AE to track your shot and add advanced visual effects to live action footage inside Adobe After Effects. mocha can help you track shots that would be hard to track using traditional 2D point or feature trackers because it is a PLANAR TRACKER. A planar tracker uses planes and textures to track as opposed to points or groups of pixels. This allows the tracker to stay on track even if your shot contains motion blur or a very shallow depth of field. mocha AE comes included with Adobe After Effects and is available since CS3 and there is no reason for you not to use this awesome tool to make it easier for you to track your shot, replace screens or rotoscope!
