Re: Shatter-Mation in After Effects

Hi Rob, great tutorial. One thing i can´t solve is the imperfect aspect of the lateral sides of the shattered texts (or shapes). I put the actual text as shatter map, lateral side texture in color, select the same color of the front side of the texts and it´s ok, but lateral side looks like if the cut was done with masks with no beziers, so there are no curved shape and it´s not soft, but like it was cut with an imperfect tool, can´t you understand me? Is there any way to solve this?
Cheers!

Hi Luis,

Searching for the answer to the artefacts in Shatter problem and I chanced upon your post: "Make sure the text color (in the Character Panel) is either all white, all black or less than 50% brightness. Use the Textures settings in the Shatter Effect to color your text."

MAGNIFICENT!

Considering all the other posts I had looked at - they all seemed to miss the point completely, suggesting all manner of problems - yours was quick, easy and it worked. Many thanks indeed.

Hi, Anton...
It's good to hear that you found the solution to your problem with artifacts in the Shatter effect. Those little pests bedeviled me for quite some time.
Thanks for taking the time to write; it's very encouraging.

Great tutorials!! Thanks a lot!
I learned a lot from you. :)

One thing though. I would it find easier to watch if you could upload them please in sharp clear easy to see HD. not the blurry fuzzy 720p but full HD.

Thanks
Camille

Hi, Camille...
Glad you found the tutorials useful.
They are, in fact, uploaded in HD per the specifications of Creative COW. I'm not sure why your results are not satisfactory... the playback on my devices is quite good (most of the time).
I'll pursue this issue with the COW for their suggestions.
Thanks

Jody...

Sorry about that over sight... that "C" key is such a handy shortcut to toggle through your camera controls that I probably did it without thinking... I should know better.

Anyway, I'm glad you figured it out and that you found the tutorial useful

I really learned much from this tutorial. I'm pretty sure I now know what the idea is here. The only thing that confused me for a little bit was the part where you switched to the comp camera near the first of the tutorial to get a different angle on the shatter. When you switched to the comp camera...i noticed you could move it around quite well...I tried it several times and it just wasn't working for me. I looked real closely at your video and I noticed that your cursor was different. I then began to wonder if you had switched from the arrow tool to another.

I see now that you did but didn't mention that you switched to the camera rotation tool. But it's all good...i figured it out ;) Thanks for the tutorial.

When shattering a custom map such as text, I keep getting artifacts, lots of little bits flying off separate from the letters. How do you avoid those?
@Rob Kahn
by Rob Mize
Make sure the text color (in the Character Panel) is either all white, all black or less than 50% brightness. Use the Textures settings in the Shatter Effect to color your text.
This is covered in the tutorial at about 13:10.

I apologize. I was sort of familiar with the technique so I was skimming through to find an answer. You have solved a years old problem of mine. Thanks

What Are Adobe Motion Graphics Templates?

A Motion Graphics Template, referred to as a MOGRT, is an animated sequence that is self-contained and can be used in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere Rush and Adobe After Effects, combining graphics, text, audio and video files, as well as vector or still images (including logos), to create a still or animation that can then be customized by the MOGRT user.
