NAB 2013: Day One With Ryan Salazar
COW Library : NAB Show : Ryan Salazar : NAB 2013: Day One With Ryan Salazar
Hey! The first day of the 2013 NAB Show is absolutely remarkable! There are so many new products and new technology it is UNREAL! And I keep running into so many of my friends and peers in the industry - I'm so glad that we get this opportunity to catch-up on a more social level and among all this cool stuff!
One of the very first things I did today was appear on Livestream's LIVE from NAB 13 "studio" within their NAB Booth (Livestream Studio HD50, HD500, H900, HD1700), which you can see by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6QZKXBgoqc&feature=youtu.be. Amanda Duncan interviewed me ruthlessly but I was able to keep-up with her! I look forward to my interview Wednesday and the roving camera crew that will follow me around as I interview some of my old friends and new friends hanging-out on the Show Floor.
Blackmagic Production Camera 4K is a new high-resolution digital film camera sporting an advanced large Super 35 size sensor and professional global shutter, along with precision EF mount optics and impressive high-quality Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) file recording. (President Dan May preceded me at the Livestream Interview and spoke very highly of this outstanding camera!) For example, the latest high-end televisions and video projectors use Ultra HD, and that is four times the resolution of regular HD video. The great thing about the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K i9s that it shoots high quality compressed CinemaDNG RAW and ProRes 422 (HQ) files in 4K. What more could you ask for? Datavideo's HS-2000 Production Switcher was very impressive! You have to actually see it in action to know just how impressive it is! To start off with, it's a 5-Channel HD Portable Production Unit - Literally, a mobile studio for multi-camera productions scaled down into this portable package. Whether you're recording religious ceremonies, educational settings, a live outside broadcast or simply shooting inside a production studio - the Datavideo SE-2000 HD video and audio switcher is amazing! Check it and other products out at: http://www.datavideo.info/Mobile+Video+Studios/HS-2000#tab=description.
Livestream, the folks I was talking about a few paragraphs ago, have their own line of portable production gear - which they were using in their booth-studio and during my interview! Talk about impressive! I not only directly witnessed a demonstration - but was a part of it! In today's day and age, you MUST be able to go - and Livestream GOES! If you don't believe me, Livestream products, including the new HD500 Portable Switcher, can be seen at: http://store.livestream.com/pages/livestream-studio.
Telestream(R), the leading provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, has integrated its Vantage(R) video transcoding and workflow orchestration products with VidChecker, the second-generation automated quality control (QC) software product from VidCheck. I saw this demonstrated at Telestream's booth (SL2605) and it brought joy to me - since I am pro-automation to begin with… AND since I recognized VidChecker at last year's NAB Show, even giving it a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hits Blue Ribbon! When I saw it in action, I was amazed seeing that VidChecker QC software appeared as an icon in the Vantage graphical user interface! I stood by it last year, and I stand by it now! Aside from its continuing success with its advanced Creative Finishing software suites, Autodesk announced at the 2013 NAB Show an enterprise technology agreement with Technicolor, which now has access to a wide variety of Autodesk products, ranging from Autodesk Maya to the Autodesk AutoCAD family of products and Autodesk Vault products, in addition to the powerful Autodesk Creative Finishing technology Autodesk Flame Premium. Rock-on, Autodesk!
Facilis Technology, celebrating 10 years in business, is having a dinner RIGHT NOW! I'm having drinks with my old friends and am listening to a few tales of bygone eras, and ready to tell a few of my own! It's all about the TerraBlock v 5.7, the Facilis Shared File System and their new SyncBlock archiving and backup solutions. So, congratulations, folks! Here's to the next 10 years! The MediaMotion Ball is returning for its 16th year at NAB, and is being held at the Monte Carlo Casino tonight (Monday). It is the longest running all-volunteer and not-for-profit event for production professionals, first held in 1998 - it's one dinner you 'need' to be at during NAB! A relaxed event that allows you to meet and talk to the 'who's who' in the video production, motion graphics and 3D fields. I went last year - the food was GREAT and the mingling extraordinary! Sadly, I had to miss it this year so I could be at the Facilis Dinner... there's always next year!
Leyard Opto-electronic Co., Ltd. Showed-off this stunning 4K Ultra HD LED Video Wall - the World's first, according to them! The clarity was unbelievable - and the sprawling size engulfed the space! Nothing that I can write can do this justice! I took the picture (above) but that doesn't even portray how awesome this is! And LED, too! You have to see some of their other products at their website: http://www.leyardleddisplay.com.
Finally, Tools on Air's TV "Station in a Mac" caught my eye! Upon closer inspection, I found that this is a highly-acclaimed software suite designed to create a complete TV production facility in a Mac! Talk about exciting! Never before have I seen such a thing - a software suite that makes a TV studio on a laptop! Acquire, manage and deliver like never before! I want one... Whew! What a day! The first day is always the longest - as everyone gets situated and the fans crowd the Exhibit Floor! While I like the excitement of DAY ONE, I am more at ease on the second day - when I have my bearings and know where I want to navigate to! I will say one thing... I'll be sleeping solid tonight! Remember to follow me at: blog.nabshow.com - and don't forget to STAY BLOGGED-IN!
