Michael Klick has the rare combination of logistical, technical, and creative skills that have made him one of TV's top producers. With a career spanning more than forty years, Michael is a natural leader who knows what it takes to plan and carry out TV series at the very highest level under the constant constraints of time and budget.

Michael produced several seasons of "24" and directed a number of episodes as well. He's now working on an exciting new Fox series from the executive producers of "24," called "Homeland," premiering Sunday October 2nd, on the Showtime Network.

At first glance, the story-line sounds more like a movie concept to me than episodic TV. And, while I haven't seen anything yet other than a few promos, I'm already wondering if the producers will be able to sustain the concept over time?

In any case, Michael was a great interviewee, and I certainly appreciate having him as my guest. And, I wish Michael Klick, Fox, and Showtime the best of luck on "Homeland," and I hope they have a long first run.

"Homeland" premieres Oct 2nd on Showtime, so let's all watch and compare notes.

Very interesting interview. Interesting that Homeland is shooting in Charlotte. I wonder does the show take place in Charlotte, or is it simply cheap to shoot there vs Vancouver or LA?
I think I have the pilot on my DVR or it is set to record.

I'm glad to see that Homeland is using actual enemies - Al Quaeda for example.

24 jumped the shark when they started having the villains appear to be from made-up countries. The Russians were still part of the conspiracy, but Sengala and Kamistan may sound like real places but they just ruined the sense that 24 was taking place in the real post-9/11 world.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the action in the last 2 seasons was great but they started to get carried away with the conspiracies that played out over 24 hours. I think, as the interview discussed, 24 went out at the right time.

Glad you liked the podcast Mike, and hope you stay tuned for additional interviews to follow in my series.

I suspect that Homeland is shooting in Charlotte due to lower costs, tax incentives, and airport proximity. It's also got a moderate climate and lots of different locations that can substitute for anywhere. I'll ask Michael Klick though and I'll see what he says. I'll let you know...

We watched the pilot of Homeland on the Audience network. Apparently they are promoting the show and Showtime on various DirecTv channels.
It should be illegal to edit programming like we saw (blurred and muted naughty bits and muted curse words (they even edit the closed captions)).

We'll rewatch when the non-Walmart version airs next week.

Overall looks to be a good show. A Manchurian Candidate like plot. Hopefully there is more to it than that. A grown up Claire Danes with a few screws loose. And everyone likes Mandy Patinkin.

I see why they are filming in Charlotte. They could film in Hartford or Cleveland. Aside from some 2nd unit shots in DC this show could take place anywhere. Much like 24...although the stories were set in LA, Dc and NY most criminal activity takes place in generic warehouses, bars, houses, apartments, offices and parking garages. Clever.

I like the male lead although in his dress uniform he looks like Dick Winters from Band of Brothers. That was some of the best television evet. I hope he is given some good dialogue. So far it feels a bit dry but usually new shows kick into gear on episode 6 or so.
