Jim Harvey reviews The Vegas 6 Companion Training Series and comments, ''Gary Kleiner knows VEGAS. He has been working with the program since dirt was a new idea, and in that time, he has uncovered all sorts of big and little secrets about the program that make working with VEGAS that much more productive and enjoyable... {there is a} wealth of instructional help that Gary can provide for you. His prices are extremely reasonable and the quality of the training is top notch.''

Gary's new program set, THE VEGAS 6 COMPANION, is a complete learning course for working with VEGAS 6.

This 5 disc set covers virtually everything you'll ever need to know about VEGAS 6 in order to take advantage of the incredible power of the program. If you absorb 30% of what is contained on this course you'll know more about VEGAS than most people ever will. From a program that was literally laughed at not that many years ago, VEGAS has become somewhat of an industry standard for many people. It's Audio tools and color correction tools take a back seat to no one. The Ease with which you can layer video and audio tracks with complete control make it a Smart choice for nearly any kind of editing that you may need to do. With Gary Kleiner at your side, showing you the shortcuts and the smart way to work with VEGAS, your experience and expertise increases dramatically. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself an expert with VEGAS already. If you watch Gary's course from beginning to end, you WILL learn new things that you never suspected.

The first two discs cover the Vegas Basics along with some tips and tricks that you'll want to have up your sleeve. Watch them, especially if you're an old hand with VEGAS. You'll be surprised at what you've forgotten! Disc 3 gets into Envelopes Keyframes Track Motion and some 3D. Vegas is king when it comes to Keyframes and Gary explains the ins and outs of successful keyframing quite nicely.

Disc 4, along with sections on Pan/Crop and Bezier masking, gets into the Audio tools that VEGAS is so well known for. This is a section that I found to be particularly interesting as Audio is 90% of your video (at least SOME of us believe that!)

Audio Chapters
The Audio Chapters cover the subject thoroughly

The final disc in the set covers the compositing functions that are found in VEGAS 6 as well as Color Correction, Scripts Multi-Cam, rendering and HDV. Additional information on the DECKLINK board is covered so that you have a very comprehensive overview along with specific insights into the function of the program and its capabilities.

Disc 5 covers some of the more complex issues that Vegas 6 can handle.

Gary takes special care to fully explain what he is doing as he goes through the different sections of the course. He has a pleasant manner and comfortable style that won't jangle your nerves while you're trying to get a handle on the program. It takes a special kind of person to create these tutorial sets. If you have spent any amount of time with various programs, you know what I'm talking about. The best programs can be watched over and over again, while the others wind up gathering dust somewhere far from the edit suite. This set will get a lot of use.

Here's the best news, the price of this set is only $149.00 for nearly 12 hours of instruction from one of the best in the business. You really can't go wrong here. If you're not quite up to speed and are using an older version of VEGAS (4 or 5) Gary can still help you out with training for those versions. Do yourself a favor and stop by his website at http://www.vegastrainingandtools.com/. You'll see the wealth of instructional help that Gary can provide for you. His prices are extremely reasonable and the quality of the training is top notch.

Finally, there is one more touch that I really like. Included with the set is a booklet that contains an index of each disk with Disk/Section/Chapter listed in is so that you don't have to go searching around for hours trying to find that part about Moving Events Numerically or Text Masking. A very nice touch for ANY tutorial program.

In Conclusion

Gary Kleiner has devoted a good many years to exploring and extracting the most out of VEGAS editing software. We are lucky that people like him are willing to put it all down so that the rest of us can get up to speed with a minimum of drama.

I'd recommend that you also get the companion set for DVD Architect3 (DVD Authoring with DVD Architect 3) that Gary has also produced. The 2-disc set is only $79.00 and covers all the nuances of the DVD Architect Program. Using this package will set your work apart from those who simply fire up the program and “Drag & Drop”

I'm fortunate to be able to review such excellent material.

Track Motion has nothing to do with tracking motion but is the ability to animate a whole track which includes all the events/clips on that track. Additionally, you can animate a track in 2D & 3D giving some really cool options inside Sony Vegas Pro. However, if you also want to use Layer Dimensionality with 3D Track Motion you need to know how as there are a few extra steps. In this tutorial, Andrew Devis explains what Track Motion is, how to set it up and goes through some of the issues involved if you want to use it in conjunction with Layer Dimensionality for cool results.
