Dynamic Link for the AE Workflow

CreativeCOW presents Dynamic Link for the AE Workflow -- Adobe After Effects Tutorial

CreativeCOW.net. All rights reserved.

Dynamic link allows you to use the power of Premiere Pro in After Effects, but is often misunderstood and consequently under-used. In this tutorial Andrew Devis explains the basics of dynamic link and then show you how to create a new PP sequence that is the same size as your AE composition and then how to import a PP sequence into AE to use as any other footage item without having to render it out first from PP. Andrew also demonstrates how to use and update Photoshop and Illustrator documents in AE using the 'reload footage' option. Please note the following: Dynamic Link between PP and AE only works with the Production Premium and the Master Suites. IT DOES NOT WORK ON STAND-ALONE PRODUCTS!

Andrew,

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the limitation on Dynamic Link being a one-way street is gone for CS5. That bad news is that the first part of your tutorial is now inaccurate for CS5 (but still accurate for CS4).

There are still some limitations that prevent circular references (e.g., A refers to B, which refers to A), and those are described here. But note the lack of this note that appeared in the CS4 version of the same document:
"Note: Dynamic Link is a one-way delivery mechanism from one application to another. You can't pass information back and forth between two applications at the same time."

What do you suggest? Should I get it pulled and start again?
Thanks

It's a good tutorial, and it's still accurate for CS4. You could probably salvage it without any major changes with a text overlay saying that the one-way street limitation is just for CS4.

BTW, this prompted me to write this blog post:
http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2011/01/dynamic-link-in-cs5-no-l...

This is really our fault for not calling more attention to what is really a rather major change.

Thanks Todd
I'll have a look at both the AE and PP tutorials and see if I can make the changes and get updated versions loaded. I hadn't caught on to the change, and as you say it is a big one!

Thanks for the advice as always

What Are Adobe Motion Graphics Templates?

A Motion Graphics Template, referred to as a MOGRT, is an animated sequence that is self-contained and can be used in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere Rush and Adobe After Effects, combining graphics, text, audio and video files, as well as vector or still images (including logos), to create a still or animation that can then be customized by the MOGRT user. The result is a dynamic creative tool that provides design freedom and is consistent to its users across apps and devices. Reuse, share, and even sell them!
