At NAB 2011 MTI Film introduced Remote Control Dailies--also called "Dailies in a Box"--a complete solution for remote location dailies processing. The system includes all Control Dailies modules including the DA Head for decoding all digital cameras to date, Control Color (MTI's ASC compliant color corrector that also includes CDL/LUT capabilities), and Convey for encoding popular files for editing and screening deliverables. The system leverages MTI's concurrent workflow, which has been used on many motion pictures and TV productions over the last eight years. Remote Control Dailies provides concurrency for Ingest, Audio/Picture Synchronization, Color, and Output as well as LTO5 archiving.

Compact and portable, Remote Control Dailies are meant to be brought on or near the set to begin the dailies process while the production is still shooting. The system provides a complete suite of dailies processing tools plus on-set archiving.

MTI Film also introduced PixelStax, a way for facilities to share work among artists in multiple locations, for use with its digital restoration software Correct DRSTM. The new PixelStax History feature will be included in Correct DRSTM Version 10, slated for release during Summer 2011.

PixelStax was born out of the need for facilities to share work among artists and operators of varying skill levels or in multiple locations. With this new history format, entry-level operators can complete an initial round of dustbusting then pass on the work for review by an expert artist or by Quality Control, along with the full history and metadata from the original work.

With this new 'history' format, entry-level operators can complete an initial round of dustbusting then pass on the work for review by an expert artist or by Quality Control, along with the full history and metadata from the original work. This gives the user completing the second pass complete access to the history undo functions within Correct DRSTM, even if their station is not on the same SAN or network as the original user. This model can be extended to cover work sub-contracted to another facility or even outsourced overseas.

PixelStax also offers benefits for installations already using a shared work environment. Multiple users can access the same clips concurrently, so expert artists can review sections as they are being completed and take on more difficult problems as they are found.

“I am thrilled to be joining the COW team,” said Debra Kaufman, newly named Associate Editor of Creative COW Magazine. “In an era in which so much coverage has shrunk to 300-word sound bites, I'm delighted to be able to cover the dramatic changes in our industry in depth. Additionally, I look forward to reaching a huge number of engaged readers working in production and post, in the U.S. and internationally. Publisher Ronald Lindeboom and Editor-in-Chief Tim Wilson early on understood the importance of a web presence, and have created an astonishingly large audience both online and in print.”

Look forward to more great stories from Debra in Creative COW Magazine, and online here at CreativeCOW.net.

NAB Show New York 2016: Growing, Yet Still Intimate

Calling April's NAB Show "overwhelming" is an understatement. The expo that fills the rapidly expanding Las Vegas Convention Center every April topped 103,000 attendees and 1700+ exhibitors in 2 million square feet of exhibit space. Here's a preview of the week's festivities.
