At NAB 2013, NewTek debuted 3Play 4800, a multi-camera replay server for live sports production. Among its features are real-time capabilities, redundant capture, enhanced visual effects, live replay switching, high-end slow motion, and social media publishing within a single, turnkey system, available now for just under $40,000 (international pricing may vary).

3Play 4800 is intended to provide affordable access to the replay server technology that has remained out of reach for many stadiums, colleges, teams and leagues, enabling many more sports producers to add instant replays, slo-mo and out-of-the-box integration with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube among other outlets.

"This is the most complete solution available for replay," said a NewTek spokesperson. "This is the latest entry to the design, which started in 2009 with the 3Play 330 and, two years ago, added the 3Play 820 and then the 3Play 425. With the 4800, we are now concentrating our efforts on sports broadcasting."

The 3Play 4800 toolset includes redundant capture of up to 4 live video sources, which doubles up ISO recordings and protects all media assets; live animated, 3D-warped visual transition effects for switching and in-program editing, and the ability to import branded graphic elements; Live Replay Switching to monitor all angles during replay, and transition between them video-switcher style; clear slow motion playback with HD or SD cameras, via a high-resolution algorithm for motion and still images; and easy social media publishing to multiple sites in one pass, even during live production.

NewTek also extended the capabilities of the TriCaster 8000 with a showcase of new products from leading companies in the NewTek Developer Network. "Our developer network allows us to work with third party developers for plug-ins and integrate third party products, she said.

TriCaster 8000 is a complete live production and media publishing solution

TriCaster 855 is a complete, integrated solution for delivering live productions in native, full-resolution HD.

The companies that debuted new products and workflows for TriCaster customers include two focused on streaming: Haivision, which automated cloud transcoding with HyperStream Live and UStream, which enables Tricaster to stream directly to UStream with one click. With regard to graphics, Compix now offers a Linux-based software character generator for TriCaster with optional channel branding and social media integration and Graphics Outfitters provides IVGA Connect to connect any external HD-SDI source over the Internet to TriCaster.

Freeplay Music provides desktop access to free, cost effective music for TriCaster. New controller support includes AJA's KUMO SDI routers, which connects up to 32 sources with TriCaster 8000 and Utah Scientific's UTAH-100/UDS modular router system which provides additional sources for the TriCaster 8000. These new developer solutions join an existing roster including solutions from Chyron, Livestream, Blackmagic Design, and others.

NewTek Vice President of Business Develoment Michael Kornet notes that the increased number of people using TriCaster and 3Play is "dramatically expanding the landscape of live production and network style content" - and points out how the NewTek Developer Network aids in this expansion. "Through the program's SDK we have provided the inner workings of our products so that developers can add even more value to our customer's live production workflows," he said.

With a simple setup, a few square feet of space, and NewTek Virtual Set Editor, now you can easily transform any location into a professional, virtual environment.

NewTek's TriCaster has proven itself to be a very able tool for a range of broadcasting solutions. Creating a NewTek Developer Network was a prescient step, since only now are so many companies understanding the importance of these crucial partnerships. The additions to this year's roster of developers is welcomed, and I'm sure we'll see more at next year's NAB.
