hi ya,

Am running v12 and there is no Solid Body tag so I have used the Dynamics body tag... However.... When the fallin objects hits the words.... the words, and the floor, start falling without any sign of shattering...

Thanks for your time.

Version R12 has some changes. mograph does not have the rigid body option. I did however find tags(that allowed me to set some trigger options) under dynamics. but could not make the animation work. Any thoughts?

hey man, did you get any help on this... I am the same.

Hi Chris,
I liked the tutorial, coz I just got C4D and I'm in the learning curve...but, why didn't you use the keyboard shortcuts for the slice work?
Split command = U~P
Disconnect = U~D

Thanks for the info...it was very informative, esp for this noob... and I like the way it came out. This is going to be a lot of fun as soon as I can start mastering some of the procedures.
Thanks Again for all the great info at CC..u guys ROCK!

The falling logo tile is the effect I'm trying to duplicate for our intro's.

Thanks.

Falling Logo Effect
by Gregory Matthews
Hi Adam,

Great tutorial. Thanks. Quick questions:

1. To achieve the falling logo tile effect where it falls, bounces a little, then settles down ... is that why you added it to the cloner in order for it to have dynamics properties (I assume dynamics is what creates that effect)?

2. Is this tutorial the same technique used to achieve your Creative Cow Masters Series Intro as seen here (where your logo tile falls to the ground and then settles flat):

http://store.creativecow.net/p/52/serious_effects__compositing

Thanks Adam.

Gregory
I can follow this from scratch.
by Lillian Young
I can follow this from scratch. The problem's that I'm trying to apply it to an existing project.

I have a photo with alpha mapped to a editable plane.

I want THAT to shatter/explode when text (a null mad up of various editable parts) hits it.

That's more complicated, and I cannot find ONE tutorial on how to do this. Any suggestions?

I'm using the X Breaker plug-in Mac Leopard, C4D 11.5 and MoGraph.
NICE
by Lillian Young
I'm so glad you've updated us with a way to perform the disconnect in one swoop.

This tutorial is awesome, and I say that as a Maya user only familiar with and attempting to resist C4D.

I needed to animate a logo fast though, and this tutorial got me going.

The only thing is that I'd like to reverse it because I'm splattering the copy, and I'd like the copy to be present in the last frame instead of shattered on the floor.

I will probably figure that out before anyone's able to reply. If not....how's it done?

i am new to c4d,when you are splitting the polygons you have to select each polygon and split and disconnect form the menus. is there any way you can create a simple script (like in maya)to make the process a bit faster?

Hey Adam,

You need to add the logo to the cloner in order for it to have dynamics properties.

nice tutorial - one question

great tutorial chris, thanks.
As a C4d user of less than a week everything is still very puzzling...i am wondering why you put a Cloner object onto the logo instead of just using the logo?

thanks Adam
Logo Break Up
by Maggie Baker
Loved the tutorial, rigid body is an amazing new feature in R11.5. It motivated me spend the $1700 on the upgrade and its worth it just for the rigid body feature-- then I used my own artwork to create the animation. It looks great except that my logo doesn't break up when it hits the words, like your does-- I am curious as to what I need to do to have it break into pieces.
Damping
by Steve Pellegrin
Thanks for the great tut, Chris. I used it in a presentation. I had a bottle fall and crush a logo on a stage. However, I struggled with the "bounce" of the bottle - it was too much, making the bottle tip and fall on its side. I found "linear damping" thru C4D help, but the results seemed inconsistent from the viewer pane to the final render. In the preview it looked fine, but in the render it bounced too much. Is this because of the randomness of the dynamics engine? I'd love to be able to set a number and get consistent results.
Damping to Reduce Bounce
by Steve Pellegrin
Thanks for a great tut, Chris. I used it in a presentation where a drink bottle crushes a couple of logos. Problem was, the "bounce" of the bottle in the preview pane didn't match the final render. Preview showed little bounce (good), but final was much more, knocking the bottle on its side. I discovered "linear damping" in help, but again, results are inconsistent. So to meet deadline my bottle doesn't bounce at all (I set the damping to 15%). Is this because dynamics are randomly generated, and impossible to dial in an exact result?

Rigid Body

The logo isn´t in your project files Chris.
Where do i get it?
No split and disconect
by Alexander Alexandrov
If you like to skip this part with split and disconnect, you can cut the spline in Illustrator with knife tool and merge Illustrator splines in Cinema and then go explosive fx :)
Thanks

thanks for the info Chris i`m downloading the
new C4D 11.5

Arnoldo,

That feature is only available in 11.5...but you can still do everything the same. The solid option will automatically put a solid in for you in when you open up your comp in After Effects...it is nice but not necessary.

Great news

Oh cool, thats great news - thanks for finding a solution!
Thanks !!

Tanks alot Chis for the info!!
and about the Mograph tag>Solid body??
i dont have it what can i do ?
=)
Split / Disconnect
by Chris Martin
OK guys....we live and learn right? After playing around a bit more I have realized that after you do all of your knife cuts you can then just select 1 of the cuts and press ctrl. A while in polygon mode to select all of the cuts. After that use the function disconnect and uncheck preserve groups....then put it under the Explosion fx and then under the fracture object and it works just the same but without all of the hassle!!!

Regards,

Chris
Nice One
by Frank Maier
Nice Tuto Chris, once again! But isn´t there a script or a plugin out there which automates the split and disconnect work?
i have a question
by Arnoldo Garcia
ho very nice tutorial i learn alot about cinema 4d
i just have 2 douts
1st one, i made all you say but i don`t have MoGraph taps/Solid Body
how do you made bigger the workspace on the perspective view?
i have Cinema 4D & Body Paint 3D Release 11
i`ll be glad to see your opinion thanks

Very Nice. Wish there wasn't a intensive way for split and disconnect. But very nice
