Thanks Kevin. I just wanted to point out that this is the same behavior as legacy FCP, where layered PSD files were sequences, and the sequence duration was limited until you went inside them and extended the individual layers, or use the speed functions as you showed here so well.

Also, drop shadows and effects created in Photoshop now carry over to FCP. PC created layers also work. In legacy FCP, PC created layers came in flattened.

Tom - you mention that layer effects carry over. I find that text with a stroke, gradient overlay and embossing works fine as long as there is only one layer in the file. Shadows do not appear to work properly for me however. They come across gray instead of black if they are translucent or if they are solid the edges have a gray and/or ragged outline. I have tried a combination of settings and this is consistent. It appears FCP is not properly interpreting the alpha channel of the shadow when the layer effects are still active. Are you seeing this? The only way I can get the shadow to work properly is to merge the text with layer effects into an empty layer.

I haven't tested this, Nick, but have you tried changing the alpha type in the inspector? Have to go in to "settings view" of info tab.

Many thank's for that.

What you showed us could also have been created and sent to FCPX from Motion and I was wondering what your thoughts were regarding creating graphic / titling components in Photoshop vs Motion.

If you need to amend a graphic component in FCPX that was created in Photoshop will it automatically update itself in the timeline?
