Rob;

You and I are apparently on the same page when it comes to character animation using After Effects' shape tool.

I find using the shape tool closer to 'drawing' the character action then using a 3D program. However a 3D program can create finer detail and more control.

I loved your Candice B. Reele character. Here are some of my own creations using just the shape tool.

Great tutorial, Rob!
Thanks for sharing.

Works even when you use a photo of someone and shape it out.
Sometimes I'm wondering is there something AE can't do?

Hi great tutorial, I am a Toon Boom Studio user and use similar techniques, and it's great that After Effects now allows for more options making animation, I might make some layered Characters in Photoshop or Illustrator and use the techniques in your tutorial, still use AECS3, look forward to part 2

mocha AE Planar Tracker for Absolute Beginners

mocha AE Planar Tracker for Absolute Beginners

Want to learn how to create advanced visual effects? Learn how to use mocha AE to track your shot and add advanced visual effects to live action footage inside Adobe After Effects. mocha can help you track shots that would be hard to track using traditional 2D point or feature trackers because it is a PLANAR TRACKER. A planar tracker uses planes and textures to track as opposed to points or groups of pixels. This allows the tracker to stay on track even if your shot contains motion blur or a very shallow depth of field. mocha AE comes included with Adobe After Effects and is available since CS3 and there is no reason for you not to use this awesome tool to make it easier for you to track your shot, replace screens or rotoscope!
