Calling April's NAB Show "overwhelming" is an understatement. The expo that fills the rapidly expanding Las Vegas Convention Center every April topped 103,000 attendees and 1700+ exhibitors in 2 million square feet of exhibit space in 2016. The Big Apple's edition of the NAB Show is more bite sized: taking place this week at the Javitz Convention Center, 8000 visitors will be able to engage with 300 exhibitors, along with a variety of new opportunities for in-depth workshops on cutting-edge technologies.
The show's roots are in the Content & Communications World (CCW) expo (which also featured SATCON), purchased by the National Association of Broadcasters in 2013, and rebranded as NAB Show New York last year under the tagline, The Essence of NAB. The Power of NYC". Said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith at the time, The goal for the new brand is to enhance the experience for all attendees while making the event unique to New York a mecca for the media and entertainment community.
NAB Executive Vice President, Conventions and Business Operations, Chris Brown added, The new brand will allow us to leverage the strength, leadership and content connections of NAB Show and take it to a new level by offering more innovative programming, attracting new markets and driving deeper engagement among attendees and exhibitors.
NAB Show New York will comprise 300+ exhibitors, featuring some of the world's leading brands and companies, including Adobe, Avid, BlackMagic Design, Canon, JVC, Panasonic, and Sony, many of which are expanding their presence and bringing the industrys latest innovations to the show. First-time exhibitors include Akamai, Arista Networks, CCPIT.ECC, Draco Broadcast and IBM Cloud Video.
Debuting at NAB Show New York this year are multiple new experiences, some of which originated at the annual NAB Show in Las Vegas. These include VR Village, featuring advances in virtual reality technology; Connected Media|IP, a community of exhibits dedicated to exploring the continuing evolution of mobile, social and cloud services; and Innovation Lab, where entrepreneurs demonstrate innovative products and services providing critical solutions for the media industry. NAB Show New York will also feature a new Drone Pavilion, where attendees can learn about and operate the latest drone technology.
These are positive developments that illustrate the dynamic nature of this industry, says Brown. The new branding has allowed us to leverage the power of NAB Show and the NAB Show community to offer an enriched experience for attendees as they explore the latest and most important trends in broadcast, media and entertainment in the worlds most media centric city.
New for 2016, 50+ educational sessions will be held on five Inspiration Stages located throughout the show floor. Each stage will feature 30-minute sessions on topics such as New York film and television productions, live events, news, innovation investments, advanced advertising, over-the-top content, virtual reality and satellite media. Additionally, the show floor will feature an area dedicated to networking and interacting with session speakers and panelists. Finally, the Post|Production Conference will expand with three new workshops highlighting drones, 4K and HDR production.
The co-located InfoComm Connections will feature four new conferences, including The New Learning Technology Landscape; Exceptional Corporate Events; Digital Signage Summit, produced by Invidis Consulting; and Collaborate, produced by InfoComm and IMCCA. InfoComm International is the global trade association representing the commercial audiovisual and information communications industries.
