Adobe announced updates to Creative Cloud's video apps, adding new productivity enhancers like advanced timeline searching, multi-project workflows, and the much requested Consolidate and Transcode to its pro video apps.

With over 2.3 million new Creative Cloud members as of Q2 2014, these updates mark over 600 since Creative Cloud began. Premiere Pro CC has notably been used for post-production on David Fincher's latest film, edited by Kirk Baxter ACE who added "I'm happy to see so many of the new features we asked Adobe for during 'Gone Girl' in the upcoming release." Yeah, me too.

Premiere Pro CC sees the majority of the updates in this release, with the addition of new searching and management features. Search Bins dynamically create bins, updating automatically as you add new content or taking advantage of Advanced Timeline Search capabilities.

Consolidate and Transcode will allow for more control over media in projects and sequences, with more flexibility for gathering, working with, or archiving media. Users can move all relevant files in projects to reduce the project size – all content is rendered into a single selected codec and a newer more compact project is created.

With new multi-project workflows, users can open media and sequences from other projects and bring clips, edits, transitions, or graphics into the current projects. Users can open multiple Media Browser panels for easy access to all the projects needed.

Enhanced masking and tracking makes for quicker, more accurate tracks that can be moved to After Effects for refinement. Feathering masks can be done directly in the Program window, or use the free-draw polygon tool to create complex mask shapes. Render and replace will speed up performance of sequences with heavy use of After Effects compositions, flattening the comps into video clips – though with Dynamic Link, those original comps remain available.

And support for GoPro Cineform and AJA RAW was added, with GPU enhanced debayering support for Canon RAW and Phantom Cine, allowing for native support for up to 6K media and beyond.

Among the other Creative Cloud apps, After Effects has an enhanced Live 3D Pipeline for working faster with 3D elements; Speedgrade, which will now support Blackmagic video cards, features a new hover-to-preview-looks for saving time time, and adding curve adjustments is now as easy as adding and dragging points; Media Encoder's new Destination Publishing allows a user to set up rendering and delivering work with one preset; Audition has added new video codec support; and both Story and Prelude have usability enhancement updates. All the apps will now feature a cleaner user interface with support for HiDPI Windows 8.1 and Mac Retina displays.

"As the video and broadcast industries continue to rapidly evolve, so too does Adobe's video technology. With Creative Cloud, we have accelerated the rate at which we deliver the features our customers need to create compelling new experiences and transform the video industry with high-quality productions," said Bill Roberts, senior director of professional video product management for Adobe.

While they're not exactly the sexiest set of new features ever to read about in an article, these are long-standing feature requests that editors have been pining for, especially in Premiere CC. They're the kind of updates that get your work done quicker so you hit your deadlines – or more importantly, get you home at a reasonable hour

These Creative Cloud updates will be available for download soon. Adobe will be showcasing these new features at IBC in Amsterdam September 12-16.

You might be excused for thinking that, barely a month since Adobe announced massive updates to their Creative Cloud suite at IBC, there might not be much more to add, except that there’s no way that Adobe would bring 10,000 people to San Diego for the Adobe MAX creativity conference and not have some truly compelling new news. Read on for news of new design tools for app prototyping, photorealistic comping/visualization, the new Adobe Sensei framework of intelligent services built into the entire Creative Cloud Platform, the integration of Reuters video and photography into Adobe Stock’s editorial collection, and, of particular interest to folks working in web video, the introduction of the new Social Publishing Panel within Adobe Premiere Pro.

The Other Side of GoPro's November 30, 2016 Announcement

When GoPro announced on November 30, 2016 that they would be cutting 200 full-time jobs, closing the entertainment division, and that their president would be leaving the company, the internet came alive with those who were predicting the company's demise. But there really is another side to the story and as is often the case, the loudest voices are not always the ones with the real story. In this article, Creative COW's co-founder, Ronald Lindeboom, looks at GoPro's announcement and gives his thoughts from his point of view. As Lindeboom concludes at the end of the story, "That GoPro stumbled is not surprising to me, what is surprising is that they had such a remarkable unbroken string of success until 2016."
